The Middle House
behind our name...
The Middle House Gallery and Framing owes its name to a cherished family story rooted in love, legacy, and a little house in Decatur, Alabama. The middle house sits snugly between two others: the home to the left, where owners Kitty (Nana) and Alan (Papa) live, and the home to the right, once occupied by Alan’s parents, Nanda Barb and Papa Ed.
In 2003, the arrival of Kitty and Alan’s first grandchild marked the beginning of a joyful explosion of little ones. Soon, their house was filled with the laughter and energy of many grandchildren. Over the years, Kitty and Alan would head to the middle house—the workshop nestled between the two homes—to craft and create. Whenever someone asked where Nana and Papa were, the kids’ answer was always the same: 'They’re at the middle house.' It became a family phrase, a beacon of where love and hard work came together.
So, when Kitty and Alan decided to expand their custom framing and art gallery to the public, the name was an easy choice. The Middle House Gallery and Framing isn’t just a business—it’s a reflection of family, tradition, and the special place that’s always been at the heart of it all.
